Work Experience:

1. Assistant Professor (Law) SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai, India - 1 June 2017 to present (excluding a break of 8 months)

Assistant Professor of Law at NMIMS Kirit P. Mehta School of Law, one of India’s well-known law schools. I teach Maritime Law, Public International Law, Private International Law and International Humanitarian Law.

Additional responsibilities as Assistant Professor

In addition to teaching the aforementioned subjects, my responsibilities include:

  1. Contributing to the design and development of the course curriculum, in consultation with other senior faculty members; continuous evaluation and validation of the curriculum;
  2. Tutoring, academic counselling, mentoring and guiding students; obtaining feedback from students;
  3. Evaluation of student progress and achievements, overall assessment of the students’ work within assigned courses;
  4. Preparation of teaching materials, presentations and other teaching aids; selecting and approving textbooks;
  5. Invigilating examinations, evaluation of answer scripts;
  6. Serving on the University / Law School

2. Internship at the International Labour Organisation (1 May to 31 October 2019), llowed by a short assignment as Legal officer in the maritime unit of the InternationalLabour Standards Department at the International Labour Organisation, Geneva (11November – 7 December 2019)

I undertook an internship in the maritime unit of the International labour standards department (NORMES) at the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva from 1 May to 31 October 2019. During the course of my internship, I assisted my unit with the update of a booklet on the frequently asked questions (FAQs) on the Maritime Labour Convention 2006. I was involved in updating the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 database of information on specific aspects related to ratification of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006. After successful conclusion of the internship, I was retained as a Legal Officer to assist the team in the preparation of comments for the ongoing meeting of the Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations (CEACR) in November/December 2019.

3. Earlier teaching / academic experience at Indian Maritime University (4 September 2009 to 4 September 2014): I taught Maritime Law at the Indian Maritime University (IMU) at Chennai, India. IMU is a Central University under the Government of India, constituted following the enactment by the Indian Parliament, of the Indian Maritime University Act 2008.

At IMU, besides teaching Maritime Law, I was also the Course Coordinator of the LLM (Maritime Law) Programme. My responsibilities included planning the delivery of lectures in Maritime Law subjects at IMU and other Universities with which IMU had academic collaboration arrangements. I was also involved in supervising and guiding LL.M students writing their dissertations.
