BASIC FEATURES OF THE INDIAN CONSTITUTION – RECENT TRENDS

Born in 1965 Bareilly, U.P., LL.M. (Gold Medallist) NET, and Ph.D. in Law, Prof. Priti Saxena is Head, Department of Human Rights, Director, Centre of Post Graduate Legal Studies, and Former Dean, School for Legal Studies, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, Central University, Lucknow. Besides University Gold Medal in LL.M., she is the recipient of various scholarships during her studies. She has been conferred with the ‘Prashasti Patra’ from ‘Nehru Yuva Kendra’ Bareilly in 2002. Her field of specialization is Constitutional Law, Constitutional Governance, Torts, and Human Rights.

She has authored two books one on ‘Preventive Detention and Human Rights’ published in 2007 and another book is in co-authorship on ‘Right to Information’ published in 2013 and edited 5 books. She has to her credit scores of research papers and articles published in different National and International Law Journals. She has organized 14 International Conference and National Seminars and Symposiums as Director and Organizing Secretary on various contemporary issues of Constitutional Governance, Human Rights, Right to Information, Parliamentary Democracy, Women’ Right to Equal Opportunity, Human Rights and Judicial Activism, Ragging As Human Rights Violation and Copy Rights, Disabled rights, Surrogacy etc. Under her able guidance twelve students have been awarded Doctor of Philosophy and more than 95 LL.M. Dissertations have been awarded. 08 Scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. work and 8 LL.M. Dissertations, under her guidance. She has participated and presented papers in more than 90 International, Bi-National and National Conferences and Seminars including chairing the Technical Sessions and delivering Key Note, inaugural and valedictory address as Guest of Eminence, Guest of Honour and Chief Guest. She has delivered lectures as Visiting Fellow in other Universities to law students, in Refresher Courses to law teachers and at National Human Rights Commission training Programme, State Human Rights Commission, Lucknow, State Welfare Board, Lucknow, National Judicial Academy, Bhopal and Railway Protection Force Academy Lucknow. She is the Life Member of: Indian Law Institute, New Delhi; Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi; Indian Association for Social Sciences, Health, Mumbai, and Associate Member of Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi.

She is the Chairperson and member of other academic, administrative, and advisory bodies in UGC, UPSC, State Public Service Commissions and various universities and associated with Government bodies, Commissions, and universities in different capacities, including her own University. She has a passion of learning new things, languages and always participated in co-curricular activities during her studies. She has a passionate approach to make a difference to the lives of the people by providing legal aid and other professional and personal guidance through various talks and programme at Radio Station Bareilly and Rampur along with Bareilly and Lucknow Doordarshan. She is highly motivated, sincere, honest, and hardworking.
