A Guest Lecture was conducted on Offences relating to Women with special reference to Cruelty by Husband & Relatives, Dowry Death and Domestic Violence and Sexual Harassment at Workplace by Adv. Nausheen Yusuf from Majlis, an NGO fighting for the rights of women. Adv. Nausheen dealt at length as to what constituted Sexual Harassment at Workplace and appraised the students about the law as regards the same and also the procedure for lodging complaints. Also she spoke in detail about cruelty by Husband and relatives and the menace of Dowry death.
Students were also given insights about the practical problems faced in lodging complaints to cross –examination of witnesses which could sometimes affect the outcome of a particular case. She also tried to throw light on the plight of Muslim women and how it was a fact that it was ignorance rather than lack of laws for their protection that was the biggest hurdle in protection and implementation of their rights. A video on the various rights of women like her right not to be thrown out of a matrimonial home and the fact that she cannot be called to a police station before sunrise and after sunset was also presented .It was more of an interactive session where the students constantly interacted with the speaker and also asked questions and doubts, which were in turn promptly answered.
